Salesforce Commerce Cloud Market Update

It is a well-known fact that the IT Development market is extremely candidate-driven and has been since I have been in the industry.

Over the past 12 months, we have seen a fast rise in the demand for Salesforce Commerce Cloud talent. At this moment in time, nearly all companies are trying to secure the best talent on the market.

What does the individual lookout for when picking a new company?

  • The types of project(s) they will be working on
  • Team size
  • Company/team culture
  • Will they be working on SFRA?
  • Past and present employee’s reviews on the company
  • Salary/benefits package
  • Does the company have a great remote work setup (99% of clients we work with now hire remotely)

Movement in salaries?

Due to the demand for all levels of Salesforce Commerce Cloud talent, I have seen salaries increase by 10-30% depending on how urgent the need is for the company. Although salary is only part of the decision making to ensure staff retention and longer tenures it is important to keep up with the market. Hiring twice will only cost you more money in the long run!

What size companies are hiring right now?

The current demand spans from small start-ups to the largest most reputable companies in the industry so it is important every company has a unique sell which makes them different to the competition.

When do you think the market will begin to settle/slow down?

For the foreseeable future, I don’t believe the demand for SFCC will slow down, due to the sheer volume of companies hiring it is close to impossible for all companies to be fully staffed at the same time.

Agency vs Merchant?

I often get asked by SFCC candidates whether it is better to work for a merchant or focus on working for agencies. The truth is, there is no ‘correct answer. Working in an eCommerce agency has multiple benefits usually starting with more financial incentives and the opportunity to work on multiple projects at once, while merchant typically offers a smaller environment solely focussing on one build at once giving you the chance to add more value to that particular piece of work.
