How to secure a job in AI & Robotics
Although you might not notice, artificial intelligence is everywhere we look. If you’re not just looking for self-aware robots, you’ll find examples in most of your interactions throughout the day. With tailored recommendations from Amazon that concentrate on your buying habits or using Siri on your iPhone to answer any burning questions in your head there and then.
One of the questions you might have, is how do I become a part of this incredible industry?
Well, you’ve come to the right place. At Adapt Talent we place individuals in the AI & Robotics market daily. Although we mainly focus on individuals that already have experience, we have a great overview of the key skills and traits you’ll need to land your first role by working with key players within the market.
We won’t be focusing on any particular role and more of a general approach to getting into the world of AI.
Highlight your best traits
Take this with a grain of salt, as I’m sure you already have the right traits otherwise you wouldn’t be trying to pursue a career in AI, there are not many people that just settle for this kind of industry, but this will tie into the sub-sections below.
Showing a genuine curiosity to learning and discovering how and why things work will show potential employers why they should take a chance on you. Passionate individuals will most likely succeed, if you can show your enthusiasm, your work and willingness to step into the unknown, you’ll get to where you want to be.
Show your experience
Don’t be alarmed by this sub-section. I don’t necessarily mean work experience. There are several things you can do to show that you have some “experience” within AI to give you a leading start ahead of the competition.
Just like I stated above, having a genuine interest in the field will help you land your first role – but how can you get this across? Create your own projects and showcase them on GitHub, potential employers will LOVE this. Don’t be afraid to take someone’s idea and put your own spin on it. Look here for some ideas to help you.
What is your educational background?
In the modern world, relevant education is without question the very first step to getting your foot in the door. Normally a Bachelor’s in Computer Science and other relevant subjects such as Mathematics would suffice, however, for the more skilled roles employers are now looking for no less than a Master’s, with PhD’s being a huge advantage.
Find your focus
The world of AI has so much in it with so much to learn and quite frankly, it’s impossible to learn it all. I strongly recommend finding your focus and sticking with it. Become an expert in a particular area, there’s a lot to choose from! Whether that’s Computer Vision, NLP, Robotics, or Reinforcement Learning just to name a few, find your niche and don’t ever stop learning.
At Adapt Talent we have a range of job vacancies in AI that could be perfect for you!
