Where Can Your Shopify Career Take You?
Since its IPO, it’s common knowledge Shopify has boomed. As causation affect the number of jobs within the Shopify market has risen dramatically with Shopify development, project management, site merchandising and product management being at the forefront of attractive employment options.
Throughout this article, we will look into how you can align your passions within the Shopify field and how you can use that to successfully map out the right career path for you. We will also take a look at Shopify in the news and how Shopify is facilitating app builders to innovate eCommerce.
Your Shopify Trajectory
In your first few years as a Shopify focused employee, you are likely to develop areas of interest within Shopify Tech, eCommerce Process, and eCommerce Operations, among others. These areas likely break down into further denominations within your specific position, whether you work in development, project management, technical product management, or site merchandising, having a solid understanding of the Shopify CMS, is beneficial for career progression.
In my experience talking to Shopify professionals on a daily basis, deviation in career trajectory comes from whether you take a rounded interest throughout Shopify or are singularly focused in one area. A beneficial question to ask yourself could be, do I enjoy the discipline of development/project management, or do I enjoy eCommerce/Shopify?
Both avenues provide initial guidance into the right path you, and one isn’t necessarily more beneficial than the other. If you’re a Shopify Developer and your passion is development, becoming a Lead developer, Shopify Architect, or Director of Engineering for a Shopify site. Alternatively, if you’re a Shopify developer but your interest lies in Shopify, the avenues of Director of eCommerce Technology, Head of Technical Product Management, and VP of eCommerce are likely attractive avenues.

Shopify in the News
Innovation in eCommerce is both inevitable and exponential. Shopify Apps are allowing various app builders to innovate eCommerce through the avenues of their speciality. A Metaverse company called Nextech AR Solutions are leading providers of Augmented Reality (AR) technology, and have built a Shopify App that allows products to be viewed in AR.
The continuation of immersion into the eCommerce landscape boasts an exciting future for Shopify. The level of customization that can be offered through an AR model is vast and has nearly limitless application. For example, have you ever read a shirt sizing chart and it makes no sense as to how that correlates to your body? In AR, you could put the shirt against your body, the same way you would in a store. Have you ever ordered the wrong sized cabinet for your home? In AR, you can view the cabinet in the space you’re imagining to fully customize size, shape, colour, even installation!
