The Pros and Cons of Using AI in Recruitment
The use of artificial intelligence (AI) as a recruitment tool has been growing in popularity at rapid speeds. The human resources tech industry is a $500 Billion industry, but fully automating the recruitment process certainly has its pros and cons.
The Pros of using AI in Recruitment
AI tools can help recruiters save time and energy from tedious tasks, like screening resumes. AI can analyze big data and filter a list of candidates to show the most relevant profiles in a matter of seconds, rather than hours for a human. Some other admin tasks AI tools can handle are setting up interviews for applicants, answering basic questions from candidates, and searching for specific skills/qualifications. AI tools can also speed up the recruitment process, which can take anywhere from twelve to forty days. In recruitment, time is certainly key, the longer the process takes, the higher the chance your candidate will go off the market.
The Cons of using AI in Recruitment
While AI tools can help the recruitment process, there are drawbacks. AI can help to answer candidate’s questions quickly and follow up automatically, but it can be a bit impersonal. Building solid relationships with candidates is extremely important in recruitment, so adding personal touches when you can is always a good idea. AI might be less accurate and skip potentially good candidates because of insufficient data. If a candidate uses a different word to describe a skill, but the AI does not recognize the word as a transferable skill, then the candidate will not be qualified by the AI.
AI can speed up the recruitment process, but it still relies heavily on that human touch, and it is still important that everything is double checked by human eyes. Overall, AI tools in recruitment are not going away, they have major time saving advantages for recruiters sifting through huge pools of candidates, but recruitment is a job where human made decisions are needed to make sure candidates and clients find the right fit.
