Using AI to hire. Will it replace humans?
AI and automation is now no longer talk of the future and is among us in everyday life. This will only continue in the future. One of the most recent sectors that have seen an influx of “AI” start-ups is the staffing/recruitment sector.
Will this be a welcome to hiring managers globally and will it ultimately be the end of the human recruiter?
Below I will share my thoughts on how I believe Artificial Intelligence can impact recruitment for the better and shed the light on what obstacles it may come to face:
What are the benefits of AI for recruiting?
Being a recruiter myself, I can certainly understand the many benefits of bringing AI into the recruitment process. Firstly, you remove the human element of bias. This will allow employers to use equal opportunity algorithms to deliver bias-free talent and ensure they have a diverse workplace. Another positive would be saving your HR team valuable time and ultimately filling positions faster by automating candidate sourcing and removing all the manual tasks that could be automated. This would mean that by automating the manual work in the recruitment process, that you would have more time to focus on what matters most – the people.
What are the pros and cons of AI-based recruitment?
On top of the benefits just mentioned. Another pro for companies that I would like to bring to the floor would be the power to understand how your workforce stacks up against the competition. AI capability dashboards enable employers to benchmark their workforce against a global data set to identify capability gaps in their workforce., initiate targeted reskilling and upskilling efforts, and identify individuals with specific skills and demonstrated potential. There are plenty more pro’s, but I will reveal the “con” later on……
How can recruiters use AI?
Recruiters should not see AI as a threat but as an opportunity. An opportunity for them to save time and spend more energy on delivering value where it matters truly to both clients and candidates on the consultancy side. There are many laborious, repetitive, and elongated tasks in sourcing talent that can be irradiated by AI. This will allow recruiters to provide a more bespoke service and enhance the relationship with said clients and candidates.
Do you think AI can take over humans in Recruitment?
There is no simple answer and no certainty yet whether AI will take over humans in years in the near or distant future. I do however concur there are numerous enhancements that AI can make to the entire recruitment process, I have barely touched the surface. That being said, I am not one to sit on the fence. The real value I feel I bring to a candidate for example is the human consultative side. I can manage and address their concerns and represent them in the best light possible when it comes to contract negotiation. I believe there is a lot of emotion involved when changing jobs. Where AI will fall short is on the human-emotive side. In conclusion, as truly beneficial AI will be in recruitment, my answer would be no, it won’t ever completely take over humans.
